The secret hop lifts the body off the ground to fall in coordination with the ball to the ground. The hop is an assimilation technique, in that the player becomes quickly airborn before contact with the ball, and thus can cushion the landings.
Lift off and land on the "support foot"; use the other knee to gain lift as you elevate your foot higher than your hip. First your ball touch foot leaves the ground, then your support.
