Tactical Organizational system of Play Description

ASA is using a number system for players.  Goalkeeper is the 0, the 1 is the “home defender” who mainly defends the goal arc but pushes up to the center line when the ball is deep in the other half (but is always aware of the other team’s offensive player(s) so the goalkeeper is never left 1on1 as there is no offsides rule), the 2 and the 3 (something like mids) take kick-ins from each side, in the offensive half they are trying to play the ball off the end wall to bounce back out in front of the opponent’s goal (or they can shoot directly on goal from the kick in if they see an opening).  The 4 (forward) and the other mid would be trying to time their run to the area in front of the goal to meet that bounce and shoot on goal.  The 2 and the 3 have to do a lot of running to both play defense in their half and offensive in the opponent half.  The 4 is the main offensive player, should be wide on either side at midfield line to receive the ball out of our defensive third and play it forward and should be mainly in the offensive half.

This description is a bit simplistic, obviously there’s a lot more to each position’s responsibility, but the kids know the numbers and will be assigned a number when they enter the game.  Everyone should know, offensively and defensively, that a player can take a sideline kick off the wall to themselves (wall is considered another “player” in a sense), this is in particular useful when taking a corner for example.
