The Give & Go: Application & Defense

The give and go is an effective move when faced with an opponent/defender.  It allows two players to form a triangle and thereby gain space behind the opponent.  The move involves support from a teammate; this teammate opens up a passing lane and acts as a temporary decoy while returning the ball with a quick touch.

The Give & Go 
1) A passes to Teammate B
2) A runs around & outside of Opponent X
3) B Returns the ball to (A) at the end of A's run

Motivating 14 Year Olds in Summer

Sometimes Teams need some extra encouragement to perfect their technique, especially in the off-season.  Here are three techniques we use at Athens Soccer Academy to motivate our adolescent players.


Ice Cream Accuracy Training

The Object here is for the player to score three buckets in 90 seconds.  Make it easier on poor coach Tim by placing a single bucket with a cone on top.

Athens Soccer Academy's Goalstopper

Today in Southeastern Ohio Soccer League play,
                 
an Athens Soccer Academy Little Professional  player defended two goals at one time for his club.

The other team was attacking our goal, and I cleared the ball.  It went onto the field where the girls' team was playing and smacked into the ball that an attacker was about to blast into the girls' goal from about four feet. The referee stopped play and awarded a dropped ball.

Clearly the soccer gods were smiling on ASA today!
