Training Device: The Machine

The Machine is a Training Tool Athens Soccer Academy uses to move players through skill progression and increase game-simulated stress factors.  The machine is essentially a pile of balls that get played in a progression, or moved through a circuit--"worked through the machine".

Here a player is working on hitting a target with a ball at rest; a pile or stack of balls is played at a single target.

Progression from a static ball to a moving ball...

Here a stack of balls is served in--machine input-- for the player to control, set up, and strike--machine output.

Progression to a full circuit machine...this machine combines player ball movement with passing accuracy; there is also a timing/teamwork element present.  For the machine to work and for the targets to be reset for each player, the working parts of the machine, the players and balls, are staggered

Finally, this machine incorporates seven to nine players.
It is a rectangle with two players working at either end. These players can start by standing still, but can coached to "check away, and to check back to the ball" after their teammate plays the initial pass to set up the Give--and--Go.

Players start by
--dribbling down the touchline 30 yards,
--then cut the ball into the center of the rectangular grid,
--find their teammate and perform a Give-and-Go.
--Repeat and return to starting line.

Machines are essential small pockets of game activity repeated in a predictable fashion.  Progressions are as varied as the situation the coach can recreate.

to add a defense against the Give and Go element into the machine.

Good Luck in trainings...
